Lecture: Women’s Rights in South Asia
This paper aims to deconstruct the universal problematic of the “Muslim woman” and localise it within a specific historical, social and cultural context thereby also exposing Islam as a civilization of diversity stretching from North Africa to China; and not as a monolithic bloc of fanatical, fatwa-issuing mullahs, oppressed women and martyr-terrorists, as the media would have us believe.
